Becoming Catholic - Adult Initiation
Order of Christian Initiation for Adults
We invite non-Catholics and Catholics who have not completed their Sacraments of Initiation to join us. We will explore the Catholic faith and how God’s word enriches and teaches us, and how God’s love saves us. Email at rcia@catholicshrineatlanta.org.
Questions about the Catholic Faith?
Come, Listen, and Ask Your Questions About the Catholic Faith
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (or simply, Adult Initiation) process is a time to come together and examine our lives in light of the Scriptures and embrace a fuller discipleship of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Roman Catholic Church. If you are on a journey to discover Jesus Christ in God’s plan for you, we invite you to visit us. Worship and celebrate with us and learn what being Catholic is all about. Ask questions and get straight answers about the Catholic faith.
To participate, you need only be at least 18 years of age. Having been baptized is not a requirement. We also welcome adults who were baptized in another Christian tradition, or who were baptized as Catholics but have not received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
Each week of the Adult Initiation process, aspects of Catholic worship, life, tradition and practices are discussed. We attend Mass together, and actively reflect on each Sunday’s scriptures (Old and New Testament readings, Psalms and the Gospel reading).
You’ll learn how to apply the scriptures to your faith journey, to your lives, and to the precepts of the Church.
Classes run from September through Lent (the 40 days preceding Easter), and culminate in the joyful rites of acceptance into the Church at the Easter Vigil, followed by a period of reflection.
During the Initiation process, you will have opportunities to learn how we as Catholic Christians serve each other through various ministries. In addition to service events, there are usually one or more retreats designed to help you grow in your prayer life and deepen your experience of spiritual growth.
If at any time along the way you decide to discontinue the process, we will respect that decision.
As a participant, you will have a sponsor (a practicing Catholic) to guide you, answer questions for you, and be a liaison with the parish community. The sponsor will be your spiritual partner on the journey.
So, what’s the first step? Get in touch with a member of the Adult Initiation team. We’ll be glad to talk to you and answer any questions you might have. Email us at rcia@catholicshrineatlanta.org.
In the meantime, don’t be shy! Come join us for Mass on Sunday at 11:00AM either online or in person.
We look forward to seeing you!
